Graduate Degree Programs for Christian Scholars
Our interdisciplinary degree programs (MLitt and DPhil) are designed for preparing Christian leaders in the social professions to integrate faith/learning and religion/society by means of original social research.
Our degree programs are designed to assist professionals in being effective in the real world, because, after all, that’s the world in which you work, live, and serve. Degrees awarded at Oxford Graduate are the Doctor of Philosophy and the Master of Letters in the Sociological Integration of Religion and Society. Students in the master’s program choose a focus in family life education or organizational leadership.
OGS’s carefully planned program is designed to enable you become a socially active Christian scholar within your current professions and spheres of influence. In fact, the entire educational curriculum at OGS facilitates an interdisciplinary doctoral program that combines two disciplines – religion and social science. By the completion of the doctoral program of studies, students are equipped to engage their profession by using interdisciplinary methodology to address real world problems. The hope of OGS is that students will employ the skills they learn in interdisciplinary research not for the sole purpose of achieving a doctorate degree, but to engage in life-long learning in order to affect change in the world around us.
What must not be missed is that while the program of studies leads to a doctor of philosophy in the sociological integration of religion and society, it has in mind the development of a particular kind of socially active scholar. That is, OGS is not just about general interdisciplinary studies, but about Christian interdisciplinary studies. The purpose is to provide a synergetic learning environment that integrates distinctively Christian thinking with social scientific research methodology in order to address real social problems related to the family, church, and community.
Oxford Graduate School uses specific course methodology for curriculum instruction throughout its program of studies. For example, as you work through the program, you will notice that courses are typically described as a seminar, colloquium, or tutorial. These instructional designs are tailored to meet specific needs and facilitate learning throughout the interdisciplinary program. Utilizing multiple course methodology throughout the major courses in Social Research, as well as the cognates in Communications, Philosophy, and Integrative Studies, provides program cohesiveness and contributes to the solidarity of the OGS mission of lifelong learning and scholarship.
